How long does playground rubber surfacing last?
Every B-Cool poured rubber playground carries a 2 year workmanship warranty, and what it does after that is set by the base under it. Poured rubber surfacing is bonded and seamless, so there is no tile edge for a child to catch a toe on and no joint for rain to get under. Loose fill is the opposite. Mulch and sand scatter out of the kick zones under swings and slides, compact down and have to be topped up every year to hold their tested fall depth. On a poured surface the part that ages is the wear layer, and that is renewed over the same base.
How to install playground rubber flooring?
A poured rubber playground goes down in 2 bonded layers over 1 to 3 days on site. The base layer is SBR granule mixed with polyurethane binder for impact absorption, and its thickness is set by the fall height of the tallest piece of equipment. The wear layer on top is EPDM granule in your chosen colors. Both are proportioned by weight in a forced action mixer, spread and hand troweled inside the pot life of the resin, which is short in Florida heat. The concrete or compacted stone underneath is cleaned, repaired and primed first, because poured rubber is only as good as its bond.
What is the best material for a playground surface?
Poured rubber surfacing wins on the 2 things that actually get measured, impact safety and access. It is a bonded seamless pour, so it holds its tested fall height in the same place every day, while mulch and sand scatter away from slides and swings exactly where the fall energy is highest and have to be raked and topped up.
